Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherjee

We all know on 31st August 2020 India’s 13th president Shri Pranab Kumar Mukherjee died in Delhi due to lung infection in the military hospital at the age of 84.

He was the politician and government who served the country as President since (2012-17).

He belongs to a Bengali family. His father Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee was the part of Indian struggle and fought against Britain for the freedom of India in the first half of 20th century.

Pranab Mukherjee completed his education from Suri Vidyasagar College and later he opted the degree in History and Political Science.

In 1963 he became a teacher in college near Kolkata. His journey in politics began in 1969 when he won the seat in Rajya Sabha in Indian Parliament as the member (representor) of Bangla Congress which is now part of congress.

After some year he became the part of Lok Sabha of Indian parliament and served till mid-2012.

Before being President of India, he has also worked in the office of:

  1. Minister of External Affairs of India (1995-1996)
  2. Minister of Finance of India (1982-1984)
  3. Minister of Defence of India (2004-2006)
  4. Leader of Lok Sabha (2004-2012)
  5. Minister of External Affair of India (22006-2009)
  6. Minister of Finance of India (2009-2012)
  7. President of India ((2012-2017)

Being in the government of India, he was also involved in a prominent international organization. He occupied the seats on the Board of Governors of African Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank during the time of his finance ministry which was from 1982-1984 and 2009-2012.

In 2012 the Congress Party chose Pranab Mukherjee as the candidate of Indian Presidency.

As a result, he resigned from Lok Sabha and from the party as well and won the July 19 elections. He served the country as President for 5 years and in 2017 he was succeeded by Ram Nath Kovind.

Pranab Mukherjee is no more with us but still, he served our country so well and he will always remain in the heart of all the citizens of India.
