An Article Based On Neuroplasticity & its Importance in our modern life.

Life is queer. Fortune knocks on the door only once; likewise is life. There is no second chance. We might have heard about incarnations but quite unsure of having another. Our bound duty is to take good care of ourselves to continue the battle of the remaining days assertively. Here ourselves, do not mean the entire world and me. But it’s me. How I or myself be taken care of during the pandemic? Since the undulations created by the covid- 19 stays for a longer time.

How am I affected?

God’s creation is always untiring and also astonishing. He hasn’t created any problem without any solution. It’s available but deep hidden somewhere. It’s a mystic path. One who traverses in the right path in a guided direction will reach the destination. Bruises heal with the body’s innate power. When the inner me is wounded, time becomes the best healer. Today the entire world is in distress, facing the brunt of the covid-19 and its harrowing experiences. My heart is battered seeing the aftermath, left behind the clutches. Thanks to the social media, burning the midnight oil to keep me a  cliffhanger to the scariness.

Neuroplasticity

What is neuroplasticity?

Neuroplasticity means that the human brain changes biologically and structurally when it has novel experiences, new information and also when there is an injury. In infancy and early childhood, experiences are downloaded passively as neutral patterns in the brain, which lead to the formation of beliefs, memories, equations in relationships and perceptions, apart from motor skills, all of which give rise to our strong sense of identity and a unique worldview predicated on our formative years’ experiences and the nurturing we receive from our parents and caretakers.

How is neuroplasticity useful now?

During the pandemic, we have been compelled to focus on the positive in order to overcome the situation. Neuroplasticity, if practised now, at times of social distress, helps us to navigate the world, which is preoccupied.

From an evolutionary perspective, the brain is designed primarily for our survival; hence it is negatively biased, constantly scanning for threats, internal and external. It requires some amount of inner mastery in order to thrive despite the negativity. Goal-setting and thriving are part of a systematic approach to life, and these call for behaviourism changes, forming new habits and staying self-motivated. Even as adults, we would require new motor skills like dancing and skiing, playing new games or cognitive skills like writing and public speaking. All this is possible because of neuroplasticity.

Eventually, with self-motivation, we can remodel ourselves into whatever we want to transform into over a lifetime. One should understand this should be incorporated in the young years. They differ from adult neuroplasticity that has to be active and self-oriented, and helps us rewire, reshape our brain in desires ways, even if we did not have a great upbringing and nurture.

Based on astonishing case studies, a brilliant and beautifully written, ” The Brain’s Way of Healing: Remarkable discoveries and recoveries from the frontiers of Neuroplasticity” – book by Norman Doidge. Read the book if needed for a dive into neuroplasticity and its healing.
